a game of Careers

Right now my life seems like that board game “Careers” … I’m trying to figure out my magic formula of fame, fortune and happiness. The Winnipeg folks have upped the stakes a bit – and have done a pretty good job of meeting the fortune and potential for fame aspects. But the tough part is to figure out what my happiness requirement is … or rather, what weight I place on fame and fortune. I do need to figure this all out soon though.

what happens in Moose Jaw…

So we (Caroline and Kimberley and I) are down here in Moose Jaw staying at Jaynee’s place.
There is a movie shoot down the block, so we went and walked around to see what we could see. [The movie is a Movie of the Week ... Mary Higgins Clark's Suspense Theatre: Try To Remember. Directed by Josef Rusnak. Apparently not a pie commercial, as they've been telling the little old ladies that come by.)
And then a lighting/electrical guy (Murray O'Shea [B.A. Fine Arts, U of S, 2001]) came from wherever he was, and started talking to us and hitting on Caroline (unfortunately she was unable to obtain his cell phone number … although hints were dropped).
So we all chatted for a while and I got a picture of this said Murray guy (you’ll be able to see the picture at a later date).
Alas, it is time for bed …. or a long night of sharing stories and not any sleep at all. Til next time.

Mysteries headed up to Moose Jaw, Regina

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – A Regina-based film company has opted to stay local when filming a series of TV movies based on the novels of best-selling American mystery writer Mary Higgins Clark.

Time Code Pictures will film the first two movies, Try to Remember and I’ll be Seeing You, in Moose Jaw.

“The look and feel of this place is perfect for that,” producer Stephen Onda told the Moose Jaw Times-Herald. “The town has been spectacular in maintaining its heritage.”

The third movie, The Cradle Will Fall, is planned for Regina.

Higgins Clark’s stories can be described as female-led mysteries, with a background of romance, Onda said, and so far, the first film hasn’t strayed from the formula.

American actress Gabrielle Anwar, best known for her roles in Scent of a Woman and For Love or Money, plays the main character Lisa, who – in the first film – investigates a string of murders in her hometown.

Dead Sea Scrolls segment

Dead Sea Scrolls: “An exhibition of Ancient Treasures and The Dead Sea Scrolls is on display at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. What do we know of the world’s earliest biblical manuscript? Bruce Zuckerman, director of the West Semitic Project shares his thoughts.”

One of the people they interviewedwas working on some computer software that can put the Dead Sea Scroll fragments together in proper order and can be used to distinguish letters on damaged fragments. The group he works with is planning on putting these high resolution, electronic copies of the Scroll on their website sometime in early 2004.

chaos theory and multiplication tables

So today I was able to distract my preceptor with the observation below (check out the patterns in the “sums” table). He’s big into numbers (pharmacokinetics to be exact). From there we got into ‘chaos theory’ and Bayesian kinetics. My brain is swarming with possibilities. It’s been a while since my brain was this happy. I’ve linked to some pictures of fractals – graphical representations of chaos theory mathematics, below which is my observation about multiplication “sums”.
