Comments from a recent post by Real Live Preacher, Thereí³ Something About the Way You Use the Bible
“What if the Bible is intended not merely to tell you what to think, but how to think? In that case, the questions the Bible raises in your mind may be more important than the answers you find in it. Ever notice, when Jesus was asked a question, how often he answered with another question? What if God’s answers to us are often questions? And what if, by inspiring questions in us, the Bible actually read us, instead of us reading it?” — Brian McLaren from Adventures in Missing the Point, page 81

I own the Tanakh, an English translation of the Koran, various Buddhist sutras, the Bhagavad-Gita, and many other religous texts.
However, I don’t own a Christian Bible. Mainly for the reasons that you talk about… the bludgeoning, the piercing, the thudding catterwalling of those “one verse wonders”.

“Sin bravely.”
So last night I had to work late at work. When I got home it was at the end of the news, but I managed to be there when they were giving away stuff if you were the right caller. So I managed to get through and leave my message.
Today at lunch I called home to check messages (I was a tad bored at the time) and, lo and behold, there was a message saying that I’d won tickets to the Fringe this Saturday. Something about Burning Meatloaf Productions … I dunno. I’ve got to pick up the tickets from the other side of town tomorrow before work. Perhaps I’ll treat myself to some Tim’s coffee …. or perhaps Rocca Jacks – they really have excellent coffee that’s not too expensive.
‘Tis been a while.
The new job is ok – archaic computer system but youthful staff. Who am I to evaluate after only a week and a half.
I could complain about the bank …. who needed more information from me, but didn’t bother to call, and my landlord …. who still hasn’t had anything fixed after my 6 weeks of living here.
I need to start car shopping – the ol’ Topaz didn’t pass it’s safety here a while back, so a newer vehicle is in order. (Hence the whole bank thing that I didn’t complain about.) My folks might come out to help with the car hunt.
That’s all for now.
Remember a few years ago when there was all that hype about everyone being connected to everyone else in the world by a chain of 6 people? There was even a website that you could go to and sign up yourself and your friends and then see how many thousands of people you could be connected to.
Recalling those days, I was inspired to see who links to me from their blog/site.
Chances are you have already visited the majority of these blogs, but if not – I’d encourage you to have a glance. Feel free to check out some of those in my link section.
And of course, if you think there’s a site I should visit — please leave it for me in the comments.

When I was little … well actually right up into university, my parents would take pictures of us kids in our brand new school clothes in front of our house.
That memory floated through my mind as I walked to work today. Albeit, it was the first day of work, not school, but the memory surfaced none the less. When I checked my email this evening, my dad had sent an email wishing my a happy first day at work and mentioned the same “photo-on-the-first-day-of-school” thing. Ah yes, father and daughter think alike.
After work, a friend and I went down to a trendy little area with lots of little restaurants and bars and shops. We had dinner and then grabbed a coffee — the best cup of coffee I’ve had in a long time. Then we sat in front of her apartment and watched people walk past.
And that was the first day.
