You know you’re a mennonite when a search for”farmer sausage white stuff on Google gets you 5th spot. (Perhaps I should be aiming for top 3?) I suppose the mennogirl domain adds a bit of credibility too.
If the guy who googled that question ever comes back, the answer is cooked meat juices containing protein. A similar concept to an egg white turning white when it cooks.
My own space(s) may be a mess, but I’m always up for tidying someone else’s.
This afternoon’s adventure was sorting through the updates for my old church’s photo directory. My parents have not filed any of the updates since about 1997. The church only does updates every couple of years, and my parents state they haven’t picked up the updates recently, so there were only 3 stacks to go through.
My oh my. Some folks really need to update those pictures. Thankfully, some had updates. You will be pleased to note that they old photos have now been shredded. If I can get the scanner working, I’ll even scan in the horrible picture of me and the fam circa grade 8.
On the other hand, it was good to remember those high school folks. [Song in my head ... "And the funny thing is that I never even knew him, But he coulda been any one of my high school friends", Jeremy Fisher, 'High School'.]
It would be really interesting to see where they all ended up.
Here I am; home for the holidays. I have mixed feelings about the title of this post. For while I am home, with family and friends, this place is not entirely my hometown…there is a certain small town up past PA where many of my formative childhood years were spent. I digress–I am now “home”.
This morning, my parents left for their ritual Saturday morning breakfast and groceries without waking me up to see if I’d like to join them (as I typically do when I come home for a weekend). When I finally rolled out of bed, they were gone and the sibbling was still fast asleep. So, getting myself together, I set out on a grand adventure–by foot, of course.

Today … Good Friday. All of Lent has come to this solemn day. Ever since Christmas, the passing moments have been leading to this very one. Yesterday was Passover…the Lord’s Supper…Communion…the remembrance of today and the next few days ahead. Did you prepare?
One month … until my birthday. (That is, same day next month.) I will do without cards and gifts. Join me for dinner or come play frisbee in the park or give me a call instead.
Your Birthdate: May 14

You work well with others. That is, you’re good at getting them to do work for you. It’s true that you get by on your charm. But so what? You make people happy! You’re dynamic, clever, and funny. And people like to have you around. But you’re so restless, they better not expect you to stay around for long.

So my half day education event (on quality improvement) last Saturday went super well. Excellent feedback so far. It was sort of like the last day of camp–they all wanted to exchange emails so they could keep in touch with each other and see what other were up to. They seemed to enjoy the practical application of the information.
Now I have to plan the AGM which is about a month and a half behind in planning. I don’t even have speakers confirmed yet…err, I haven’t even contacted potential speakers yet [there is only mild panic flowing through my veins as I type that].
My other professional volunteering endeavor … the one for which I am a token member and not head honcho … is rather disorganized and frustrating. For example, I wasn’t told of meetings for the last 3 months. The one I went to last week consisted of “random chaos” due to no one actually having a specific task. (I think you get the idea that I enjoy a bit of structure.) It’s all ok really. I am just glad I don’t have to do a lot of anything.
The moral of the story … 1) do not leave your office door open during committee finding season; 2) do not ask the head of a committee if there is anything you could help with; 3) most of the time, it really is a good idea to just say no (unless I’m the one who is asking if you could help with fundraising or speaker suggestions or to sit at the registration table)
